Looking for a way forward?

Maybe you and your partner keep missing each other and some days you're not even sure whether to keep trying or let go.

Maybe nothing's really broken, you just want things to feel easier: better communication, more connection, something solid enough to hold whatever comes next.

Or you're headed toward "I do" and want a strong foundation for the life ahead.

Sometimes it's your family that's shifting shape, two households coming together, or a breakup you're still finding your footing after.

Sometimes it's quieter: the kind of tired that comes from carrying too much for too long, and wanting to understand your own feelings well enough that they stop running the show.

Or it's the distance that's grown between you and a partner or a loved one, so familiar now you're not sure how to close it.

Whatever brought you here, you don't have to figure it out alone.

You don't need to have the words yet, or a plan to fix things, before reaching out. I offer a safe place to land and real, evidence-based guidance:

  • Naming what's in the way
  • Finding a way through it
  • Moving forward with someone who knows this terrain

Emily Burdette, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Hi, I'm Emily.

Emily Burdette, LMFT (she/her)

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, it's a privilege to walk alongside couples, individuals, and families through moments that ask us to grow. What I love most about this work is helping people move through challenging seasons in healthy, sustainable ways: reconnecting with their sense of self and stepping into a next chapter that actually feels like theirs. I believe real change starts with presence: being here, now, with whatever you bring into the room.

The name Neurite comes from something that shapes how I see all of this. Neurons grow tiny branches called neurites as they reach toward new connections. It's how the brain rewires itself throughout life, always reaching, always capable of change.

Healing works the same way: you already have what you need to grow. But growth isn't automatic, and it isn't always safe to navigate alone. My role is to bring real skill, structure, and clinical judgment to the process, not to hand you a solution, and not just to hold space, but to help you build lasting change from the inside out.

With couples, I focus on strengthening relationship quality, building communication skills, premarital work, and navigating blended family life, along with rebuilding trust after a rupture, including affair recovery, discernment counseling, and support through major life transitions.

With individuals, my focus is relational and personal. We'll explore the patterns you tend to repeat in your relationships, work through life stress and major transitions, including breakups and divorce, and build greater self-understanding and self-compassion, so you can move toward a life that feels more aligned with your values and who you actually are.

I also welcome family work, particularly parent-adult child and sibling relationships.

I draw on evidence-based models including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

A bit about me outside the therapy room: I grew up in the southeastern United States and spent the next decade traveling and living across North America and abroad, before putting down roots in the Pacific Northwest (southern charm still fully intact). Outside of work, you'll usually find me outdoors with my family and our dog. An ideal weekend is a mountain or rainforest hike in the morning and tracking down the best pizza in town by evening.

What working together looks like

This is a partnership, not something that happens to you. I'll listen closely, name a pattern I notice, and ask a harder question when it's needed, so we can identify what's in the way and work through it together.

You can expect equal parts warmth and structure, grounded in evidence-based practice rather than guesswork, but never rushed. We'll move at whatever pace feels right for you, in a space where the hard things can be said out loud. Some sessions dig into heavy terrain; others leave room to breathe. Either way, you'll leave with a clearer sense of where you're headed and what comes next.

All sessions happen virtually, over HIPAA-compliant, secure video. We'll use structured assessments early on to get a clear, shared starting point. Between sessions, I'll often send along something to work with: a psychoeducational resource, a journal prompt, or a communication exercise, so you leave with tools you can actually use.

We're all just walking each other home, and I'm committed to walking this part of the journey with you.
