Who this is for

A breach of trust, whether it's an affair, a secret, or a betrayal that's shaken the ground under your relationship, can feel like it changes everything. Even when both of you want to stay together, things don't just go back to how they were, the rupture has to be understood and worked through before real healing can happen. This work is for couples who want to understand what happened, process the pain of it honestly, and decide together what comes next.

You might be dealing with intense emotions, circling the same argument about what happened, or struggling to feel safe and connected again. You may feel caught between wanting to repair things and not knowing how. This tends to go best when both partners are willing to engage in the process, even if you're not starting from the same place.

What we'll do together

Healing after betrayal isn't linear, and it isn't quick. I draw on the Gottman Method's approach to trust revival, which moves through three stages: atone, attune, and attach. I won't rush the process or ask you to move on before you're ready.

1

Atone

The partner who broke trust takes full ownership of what happened, without minimizing or deflecting, and commits to real transparency going forward. This phase is about genuine accountability, not a quick apology.

2

Attune

Together, we slow down to understand the emotional impact of the betrayal, what it brought up for each of you, and the patterns in the relationship it revealed. This is where you start learning to really hear each other again.

3

Attach

With accountability and understanding in place, we focus on rebuilding closeness, trust, and intimacy, working toward a connection that feels more honest and secure than before.

What to expect

Sessions are collaborative, both of you get space to be heard, and we'll move at a pace that keeps the work meaningful without letting it become overwhelming. I may also offer reflections or practices to use between sessions. Many couples find that clarity comes first, with trust and direction following at their own pace.

I hold this work carefully. There's no judgment here, whatever your role in what happened. My job is to help you both tell the truth, feel what needs to be felt, and figure out what you want to build from here.

I'm Emily Burdette, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist offering virtual affair recovery support throughout Washington State. Sessions are $175 for 50 minutes, and we'll start with a free 20-minute consultation to see if we're the right fit, no pressure, no obligation to continue. Whatever brought you here, you don't have to carry it alone, and you don't have to have it figured out before we talk.
